Slab Finish Options

There is a range of slab finish options to consider that add to the look and feel of your slab surfaces. Each finish offers a unique texture and sheen, allowing you to create the perfect balance of style and functionality for your countertops, backsplashes, and more.

Polished – Surfaces will appear glossy and visually striking. This finish is not recommended for shower floors due its slipper nature.

Honed – Surfaces with a honed finish are smooth, matte or satin-like due to the grinding and honing the material to achieve a non-reflective appearance. Materials with this finish can be used on shower floors due to the non-slip nature that he honing process creates.

Leathered – Surfaces are textured or slightly rough. This look and feel is created by the tumbling or brushing of the material giving off a matte look with quite a bit of depth and character. This may also be used on a shower floor due its non-slippery nature.

Countertop Edge Profiles

Miter – The process of cutting the edges of a stone slab (such as granite, marble, or quartz) at an angle—usually 45 degrees—so that two edges can be joined together to create a clean, seamless corner or edge. This technique is commonly used in the fabrication of countertops, vanities, and other stone installations where a sharp, precise joint is needed. Mitered edges are often used to create the appearance of a thicker countertop or edge profile, even if the actual material thickness is standard.

Edge Details – When selecting edge details for countertops, you’re choosing the shape and finish of the outer edge of the countertop. These details can greatly influence the overall look and feel of your kitchen or bathroom, adding a touch of elegance or a more modern, sleek design. Depending on the material, style, and preference, there are several edge options to consider.

Straight Edge – A simple, flat edge with a sharp, clean finish. The corners are squared off, making it a classic choice for modern and minimalist design. Best for Contemporary or modern styles, especially when paired with sleek materials like quartz or granite.

Beveled Edge – This edge is angled at a 45-degree angle, creating a subtle and clean look. It softens the appearance of the countertop’s edge without too much detail. Best for Modern and transitional kitchens where a bit of sharpness is desired but with a touch of sophistication.

Bullnose Edge – A rounded edge with a smooth, soft curve that creates a sleek, timeless look. The edge is completely curved with no sharp angles. Best for Traditional, rustic, or contemporary kitchens and bathrooms, especially in homes with children, as it’s more forgiving if bumped.

Half Bullnose – Similar to the bullnose, but with only the top half of the edge rounded, leaving the bottom part square. This gives a softer look while maintaining a more defined profile. Best for Modern or transitional styles that still want a softer look but with more structure.

Ogee Edge – A decorative, S-shaped curve that consists of an upper concave curve followed by a convex curve at the bottom. This edge is elegant and often used for more traditional designs. Best for Traditional, classic, or even Victorian-style homes where a more ornate and detailed edge is desired.

Cove Edge – A soft, concave curve at the edge, giving a very smooth and flowing look. Best for traditional, rustic, or classic settings where a soft and smooth appearance is desired.

Standard Eased & Polished Edge – A softened square edge with rounded corners, making it less sharp and more gentle than a straight edge but still clean and modern. Best for contemporary and modern kitchens, where the soft look is preferred without losing the sharpness of a square.

Dupont or French Edge – This edge features a curved top with a pronounced, stepped ledge at the bottom. It’s often used for more ornate, upscale settings. Best for Luxury and traditional kitchens or bathrooms.

Waterfall Edge – A design where the countertop’s edge extends down the side of the cabinets, creating a smooth, flowing look. The stone “falls” to the floor. Best for modern, minimalist designs, especially in kitchens with an island. It works well with materials like quartz and marble.
