Soapstone
Soapstone is a natural stone prized for its unique blend of beauty, durability, and
functionality, making it a popular choice for countertops in both residential and
commercial settings. Composed primarily of talc, it has a smooth, matte feel and ranges
in color from soft gray to deep charcoal, often featuring striking white veining that adds
character and depth. Offers a timeless, organic look with subtle variations in color and
veining. Over time, it develops a rich patina that enhances its visual appeal.
Notes from our Fabrication Team:
- Soapstone is moderate in softness and is prone to scratch.
- Soapstone can withstand high temperatures, so hot pots and pans can be placed directly on the surface without damage.
- We can achieve any countertop edge detail on soapstone countertops.
- All natural stones are porous and require sealing for protection. Our installation team will apply sealant to natural stone during installation. Refer to the Stone Care link for more information.
- Scratches can be easily sanded or oiled out. Routine maintenance often involves applying mineral oil to enhance color and uniformity. Apply every few weeks initially to even out darkening; later, only as needed.
- Natural stone slabs come with fiber glass mesh backing to protect and support the stone; which can have natural fissures in the material that will break if the fiber glass mesh needs to be removed.
- Chips or minimal damage to soapstone countertops can be repaired.
- Soapstone is a natural stone that will require the owners/designer to hand select individual slabs/bundles since there can be variation from slab to slab.
Inventory
- We also have a remnant yard where we charge the client for the SF they use for smaller projects. Remnants will not work for larger projects like kitchens, for example. View the remnant inventory here and filter for travertine
- Or, check out the inventory at one of our partnered vendors to the right.
